NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Ketamine increases the frequency of electroencephalographic bicoherence peak on the a spindle area induced with propofol

چکیده
Background. The reticular and thalamocortical system is known to play a prominent role in spindle wave activity, and the spindle wave is related to the sedative effects of anaesthetics. Recently, bispectral analysis of the EEG has been developed as a better method to indicate nonlinear regulation including the thalamocortical system linking to the cortical area. In the present study, in order to explore the interference of ketamine with the nonlinear regulation of the sub-cortical system, we examined the effect of ketamine on spindle a waves through the bispectral analysis.

متن کاملNEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Behaviour of spectral entropy, spectral edge frequency 90%, and alpha and beta power parameters during low-dose propofol infusion
Methods. Multi-channel EEG recorded from 12 ASA 1 (American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status 1) patients during low-dose, target effect-site controlled propofol infusion was used for this analysis. The initial target effect-site concentration was 0.5 mg ml and increased at 4 min intervals in increments of 0.5 to 2 mg ml. EEG parameters were calculated for 2 s epochs in the frequency...
متن کاملNEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Apoptotic neurodegeneration and spatial memory are not affected by sedative and anaesthetics doses of ketamine/medetomidine combinations in adult mice
Editor’s key points † The combined effect of ketamine and medetomidine on cognition and apoptosis was studied in mice. † No differences were seen between groups in terms of spatial memory or apoptosis. † Hyperlocomotive activity in mice receiving ketamine was attenuated by medetomidine. † Co-administration of ketamine and medetomidine may be clinically useful. Background. Ketamine is increasing...
متن کاملNEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Unconscious auditory priming during surgery with propofol and nitrous oxide anaesthesia: a replication
Background. Priming during anaesthesia has been hard to replicate and the conditions under which it occurs remain poorly understood. We replicated and extended a recent study to determine whether intraoperative priming during propofol and nitrous oxide anaesthesia is a reliable phenomenon, whether it occurs due to awareness during word presentation and whether it is suppressed by a dose of fent...
متن کاملNEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Level of consciousness affects the excitability of spinal motor neurones during propofol sedation in humans
Methods. After spinal anaesthesia, sedation was achieved using a propofol target-controlled infusion (TCI) system to achieve a score of 4 on the Wilson sedation scale. The excitability of spinal motor neurones was determined by measuring the left median nerve F wave. F-wave persistence and the F/M ratio were recorded at pre-sedation as the control, during sedation, at arousal by mild physical s...
